China calls for de-escalation following Israeli military actions in Iran
China has expressed grave concern following Israeli airstrikes on targets inside Iran, warning of serious consequences if tensions in the region continue to escalate.
Responding to a media inquiry on June 13, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing was "highly concerned" about the situation and "deeply worried about the potential serious consequences" of the strikes, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“China opposes any violation of Iran's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity,” Lin told reporters in Beijing. “We are firmly against actions that escalate tensions or widen the conflict.”
The remarks follow Israel’s large-scale aerial offensive in the early hours of June 13, which targeted dozens of sites across Iran, including nuclear and military facilities. The strikes mark a sharp intensification of hostilities in the region.
Lin reiterated China’s long-standing position favouring diplomatic solutions, urging all parties to “do more to promote regional peace and stability” and “avoid further escalation.”
China, which maintains close economic ties with both Iran and Israel, said it is prepared to “play a constructive role” in helping defuse the crisis.
