China calls on EU to stick to free trade principles, fair competition

China expects the European Union (EU) to comply with free trade rules and principles of market competition, according to a statement from China’s Ministry of Commerce.

“China hopes that the European Union will abide by WTO rules, uphold the principles of free trade and fair competition, and firmly oppose protectionism and unilateral actions,” the ministry said.

The statement also noted that communication channels between China and the EU remain open.
