China condemns shooting at Trump reception event
China has condemned the shooting that took place during an event hosted by US President Donald Trump for the White House Correspondents’ Association, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian has stated.
At a press briefing, he said China is closely following this shooting incident, calling it illegal violence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sky News.
US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Beijing on May 14–15 for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking his first visit to China in eight years.
The incident unfolded at the Washington Hilton banquet hall.
According to reports, a 31-year-old man from California opened fire with a shotgun at a Secret Service agent outside the building and was taken into custody on the spot.
Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said investigators believe the target of the attack may have been Donald Trump and senior members of his administration.
