China confirms talks with US delegation on nuclear arms
China has confirmed that it will hold talks with a United States delegation on nuclear arms control, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said at a briefing on February 24.
The discussions are scheduled as part of the ongoing Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
Chinese officials emphasised their willingness to maintain contact with other nations’ delegations and to address matters relating to the functioning of both the Conference on Disarmament and the review of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
China expressed hope that the United States will also resume dialogue with Russia on strategic stability and consider the next steps under the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START).
