China key to UN’s sustainable development, conflict mediation, says Guterres
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has stated that China plays a crucial role in advancing the UN’s key priorities in areas such as peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights.
“China represents a fundamental pillar of multilateral cooperation and a cornerstone of UN activities,” the politician said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Guterres emphasised that China’s development assistance policies are “extremely important” for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals—the organisation’s primary mission.
In addition, China actively participates in mediation efforts to resolve conflicts, which is also one of the UN’s key objectives, the Secretary-General added.
On August 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia and China support UN reforms. He specified that this process would help to fully restore the organisation's authority and bring it into line with modern realities. According to the Russian leader, the two countries support making the UN Security Council more democratic.
