China launches “Storm-2025” drill to protect nuclear plant near Taiwan
The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has announced that Chinese authorities carried out a large-scale security exercise, codenamed “Storm-2025”.
It is aimed at reinforcing the protection of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant, located in the eastern province of Fujian, near the Taiwan Strait, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The drill, held on April 12, simulated a coordinated emergency response to a hypothetical external attack on the facility. The exercise is part of a regular biannual training schedule and was conducted for the sixth time this year.
The training was jointly overseen by China’s National Nuclear Safety Administration and the Ministry of Public Security, reflecting the country’s heightened focus on nuclear infrastructure security. Officials stated that the primary objective was to strengthen crisis response capabilities in line with the nuclear security strategy set forth by President Xi Jinping.
The exercise involved rapid deployment of operational measures in response to a simulated assault and aimed to minimise the potential consequences of such an event.
