China launches two new satellites

25 November 2024 13:51

China successfully launched a Long March 2C carrier rocket on November 25, placing two satellites into their designated orbits, as reported by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the country's top space contractor.

According to a statement from the state-owned conglomerate, the rocket lifted off at 7:39 am from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China and successfully deployed the Siwei Gaojing 2C and 2D satellites into orbit, Caliber.Az reports per Chinese media.

Developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, a CASC subsidiary, the satellites are equipped with high-resolution radar systems and will be used for a variety of purposes, including natural resource management, city security, emergency response, and maritime operations.

The Long March 2C rocket, designed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology in Beijing, another CASC subsidiary, is 43 meters long and 3.35 meters wide, with a liftoff weight of 242.5 metric tons. It is primarily used for launching satellites into low-Earth and sun-synchronous orbits.

This launch marked China’s 57th space mission of the year and the 547th flight of the Long March rocket family, the country's primary launch vehicle fleet.
