China rejects nuclear arms use, calls for adherence to international norms
China remains firmly against using nuclear weapons and urges compliance with international commitments, according to Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During a press conference, she emphasised that nuclear war must be avoided and non-proliferation obligations upheld, Caliber.Az reports per the Chinese foreign ministry.
Mao Ning stated that China acts legally to protect national security and meet international obligations, including nuclear nonproliferation.
“China consistently adheres to the policy that nuclear weapons should not be used, nuclear war should not start, and international non-proliferation obligations must be strictly observed,” Mao Ning said.
The diplomat expressed hope that all parties in the Ukraine conflict will use dialogue to achieve a “comprehensive, durable, and binding peace agreement,” and strongly urged them to refrain from actions that could cause misunderstandings and escalate tensions in the crisis situation.
Mao Ning also stated that China opposes unilateral sanctions that lack an international legal basis.
