China’s FM Wang Yi to visit North Korea ahead of Trump’s Beijing trip
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to visit North Korea later this week, ahead of US President Donald Trump’s planned trip to China in May.
Wang will stay in North Korea from April 8 to April 10 at the invitation of the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing South Korean media.
Details of the visit have not been disclosed.
This will be Wang’s first visit to North Korea since September 2019.
He is expected to meet with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, with whom he last met in Beijing in September of last year, and will likely also meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The visit coincides with the resumption of direct rail and air links between the two countries following the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of efforts to restore bilateral relations.
