China says navy successfully test-launches submarine-based strategic missile
China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy said it successfully carried out a test launch of a submarine-based strategic missile on July 6 as part of its annual military training programme.
In a statement, the PLA Navy said a strategic nuclear-powered submarine launched a missile carrying a dummy warhead toward designated waters in the Pacific Ocean at 12:01 p.m. local time, Caliber.Az reports per Chinese media.
According to the navy, the missile landed accurately in its intended target area in the high seas of the Pacific.
The PLA Navy described the launch as a routine component of its annual training schedule and said relevant countries had been notified in advance of the test.
The Chinese military also said the launch was conducted in accordance with international law and established international practice.
The test "is not directed at any specific country or target," the navy said.
