China signals readiness to cooperate with EU against US trade tariffs

China has expressed its willingness to coordinate with the European Union in defending fair international trade practices in response to increasing tariff pressures from the United States under President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that Beijing is prepared to take firm action to protect its legitimate interests, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media. 

“As a responsible major power, China has taken and will continue to take resolute measures to protect its lawful rights,” Lin stated. “China is ready to work with the international community, including the European Union, to jointly safeguard the rules of international trade, integrity, and fairness.”

The comments come amid growing concerns over protectionist policies from Washington, particularly the imposition of high tariffs on a range of imported goods. Lin described these actions as a "policy of intimidation" that harms all parties involved in global commerce.

Highlighting China’s commitment to open markets and cooperative trade, Lin reiterated Beijing’s goal of fostering mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

​On April 2, President Donald Trump introduced a series of "reciprocal tariffs" aimed at addressing perceived trade imbalances between the United States and its trading partners. These tariffs include a baseline 10% duty on all imports, with higher rates for specific countries based on factors such as existing tariffs, trade deficits, and other trade barriers.

Both China and the EU have criticized these moves, warning of their potential to spark trade wars and undermine global economic stability.
