China signals readiness to support Syria’s security, stability, reconstruction PHOTO

China has expressed its willingness to contribute to Syria’s security and stability and is open to considering participation in the country’s economic reconstruction.

The statement followed a meeting in Beijing between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Syrian counterpart, Fayssal Mekdad (Assad Hasan al-Shaibani), Caliber.Az reports, citing Syrian media.

Beijing reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Damascus and supporting Syria during its post-conflict recovery phase.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani began his first official visit to China on November 16, marking the latest high-level engagement between the two nations since the fall of former president Bashar al-Assad last December.

During the visit, Shaibani met with several senior Chinese officials.

The Syrian foreign ministry previously confirmed that the talks would focus on avenues for deepening bilateral cooperation, noting that the two sides continue to maintain aligned positions on key regional and international issues.

Al-Shaibani announced the trip last month, stating that bilateral relations were “back on the right track” following Beijing’s earlier support for the Assad government.

He told the state-run TV that Damascus is working to strengthen ties with China despite Beijing’s longstanding backing of the ousted regime, which was toppled during the December 2024 rebel offensive that brought current President Ahmed al-Sharaa to power.
