China stands firm against US plan for Gaza, backs Arab-led peace efforts
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has strongly opposed US President Donald Trump's plan to take control of the Gaza Strip and relocate its residents to neighbouring countries.
Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, Wang addressed questions about China's role in the Middle East and the US leader's controversial proposal for Gaza, Caliber.Az reports referring to international media.
“The Gaza Strip belongs to the Palestinian people and is an integral part of Palestinian territory,” Wang Yi stated, firmly rejecting any efforts to alter the status of Gaza by force. He further emphasized that such actions would not lead to peace, but would instead bring more instability and chaos to the region.
Wang Yi reiterated China’s support for the peace initiatives proposed by Egypt and other Arab nations to resolve the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Without naming the US directly, the Chinese foreign minister criticized major powers for their role in the situation. “Major states that are truly concerned about the welfare of the Gaza Strip’s residents should advocate for a comprehensive, long-term ceasefire, enhance humanitarian aid, and support the principle of ‘Palestinians running Palestine.’ They should also contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza,” he said.
Wang Yi also underscored that global stability cannot be achieved without peace in the Middle East. He pointed out that the Palestinian issue has long been at the heart of the region’s turmoil. “The core of the prolonged Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the incomplete realization of the 'two-state solution.' Israel was established long ago, but the creation of a Palestinian state has been indefinitely delayed,” the Chinese minister remarked.
He concluded by calling for the international community to prioritize the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as the key to long-lasting peace. “This is the true path to peace between Palestine and Israel, and to lasting harmony between Arabs and Jews,” Wang Yi said.
