China triples coal imports from Russia
China’s coal imports from Russia through the main border crossing point Zabaikalsk-Manzhouli climbed more than three times in first 40 days of this year.
Coal supplies soared 214% in the reporting period to over 438,000 tons, the diplomatic mission said, adding that China received a total of 6,200 cars with coal from Russia, Russia’s Consulate-General in Harbin (the administrative center of Heilongjiang Province) reported via its Telegram channel on February 27, according to TASS.
"Russian coal is used for production of electricity and head in the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning (northeast China - TASS) and in the eastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region [north China]," the mission added.
Zabaikalsk-Manzhouli is a major logistics center and transport corridor on the land border between Russia and China. In 2022, over 15 mln tons of cargoes were delivered through it.
