China urges BRICS countries to resist trade wars and hegemony
BRICS member countries should unite against hegemony and the imposition of trade wars that hinder global economic growth.
Guo Zeni, Secretary General of the Beijing International Exchange Association (BIEA), expressed this view at the closing plenary session of the IX BRICS Civil Forum in Moscow, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"For everyone's benefit, we should jointly build an open economy. This is the only way to achieve scientific and technological progress and raise productivity levels. To this end, it is necessary to oppose trade wars, as there are no winners in them. Even more so, we must oppose economic hegemony, which harms the interests of the entire world community. The hegemon must realize that it ultimately harms itself," Guo stated.
She emphasized that history has reached "another critical point," which will determine the future direction of the world's economic and political system. "The transformation process will be difficult and painful," Guo continued. "However, the BRICS countries must find ways to capitalize on this moment to provide their peoples with dynamic growth and better living conditions."
Supporting the efforts of the most vulnerable countries "in the race for sustainable economic growth" is crucial for achieving a positive development trajectory, she said. "In particular, in building their development strategies, we must promote the harmonization of human-nature relations while continuing to move towards the greenhouse gas emission reduction targets enshrined in international agreements," the analyst added.
