China urges US to stop provoking tension around Taiwan
The Chinese embassy urges the US to adhere to the "one China" principle and not to trigger the growing tension in the Taiwan Strait.
Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington made the statement in an interview with TASS, commenting on the US administration's provision of military aid to Taipei.
"China is firmly opposed to US-Taiwan military ties and arms supplies. This position is unchanged and unambiguous. The US should adhere to the one-China principle as well as the three PRC-US joint communiqués and stop supplying arms to Taiwan, stop creating new [complicating factors] that could lead to tension in the Taiwan Strait, and stop threatening peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait," Liu Pengyu said.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden ordered up to $345 million for Pentagon defence products and services, as well as military education and training to assist Taiwan.
