China urges US to uphold nuclear test moratorium
China has called on the United States to honour its commitment to suspend nuclear testing and to stop seeking excuses to resume such tests, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said during a daily press briefing in response to recent US accusations of Chinese nuclear explosive tests.
“The US accusation is unsubstantiated and entirely groundless,” Mao Ning said, adding that China has repeatedly reaffirmed its strong support for the objectives of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and for maintaining the moratorium on nuclear tests, as undertaken by the five nuclear-armed states, Caliber.Az reports.
“China urges the US to abide by the moratorium on nuclear testing, uphold the global consensus on nuclear test ban, and stop finding false justification for resuming nuclear testing,” the spokesperson stressed.
She emphasised that US actions aimed at evading international arms control obligations, along with defamatory statements about other countries, could significantly undermine America’s credibility.
“Shirking arms control obligations by vilification harms the US’s own reputation,” Ning noted.
