China vows continued support for Cuba amid global shifts

China will continue to support Cuba in pursuing a socialist development path suited to its national conditions, safeguarding its sovereignty and opposing external interference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said.

Guo made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked about China-Cuba relations as the two countries marked the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

The friendship between the peoples of China and Cuba has been passed down from generation to generation over the past 66 years, Guo said.

“In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two countries' heads of state, the two sides have made solid and substantive progress in building a China-Cuba community with a shared future,” he said.

“No matter how the international landscape changes, China will, as always, firmly support Cuba in exploring a socialist development path suited to its national conditions, safeguarding its national sovereignty and opposing external interference,” Guo said.
