China welcomes efforts toward US-Iran ceasefire, praises Pakistan’s role

China’s Foreign Ministry has stated it “welcomes all efforts conducive to a ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities,” in response to reports about a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran.

During a regular briefing in Beijing, spokesperson Guo Jiakun praised Pakistan for its “role in facilitating a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Associated Press.

He mentioned that Islamabad carried out fair and balanced mediation efforts.

Beijing has been working behind the scenes to encourage Iran to come to the negotiating table.

US President Donald Trump has also said he believes China helped persuade Iran to agree to a ceasefire.
