Chinese authorities offer citizens money for denunciations
The Chinese government has offered citizens of the country rewards of up to 100,000 yuan (nearly 900,000 rubles) and special certificates if they report "foreign spies" or possible incidents of "violation of state security."
The need for such rewards in the ministry in charge of this issue was justified by the increased incidence of "threats to the national security of the country" in recent times, Gazeta.Ru reports with reference to The Guardian.
“The developed measures will contribute to the full mobilization of the enthusiasm of the general public for support and assistance in the work to ensure national security, the broad rallying of hearts, morale, wisdom and strength of people,” the authorities justified the new initiative.
It is clarified that the authorities themselves will decide whether the information provided by citizens is worthy of a material reward, or in this case, a “spiritual” one is enough.
