Chinese nationals join growing list of evacuees transiting Azerbaijan from Iran
In a coordinated operation, around 40 Chinese citizens have been successfully evacuated from Iran through Azerbaijani territory.
The evacuees crossed the international border at the Astara checkpoint, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Following their arrival in Azerbaijan, the group underwent all requisite border and customs formalities. Upon completion of these procedures, arrangements were made for their onward travel back to China.
This operation forms part of a broader, ongoing initiative aimed at ensuring the safe and orderly departure of foreign nationals from Iranian soil. Over the past five days, Azerbaijan has functioned as a critical transit hub for evacuees from a diverse array of countries, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, as well as the United States, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and the Philippines.
All these individuals have been processed and evacuated through the Astara border checkpoint in southern Azerbaijan, underscoring the strategic importance of this corridor. Notably, one of the largest contingents among these recent evacuations comprised Russian artists who had been engaged in a month-long film project in Iran.
