China launches initiative to rally global support for peaceful resolution in Ukraine
Chinese President Xi Jinping, has launched an initiative aimed at garnering more support for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia, Xi outlined China’s stance on the matter, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
“China and Brazil have jointly developed a six-point consensus on the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, and together with countries in the Global South, have established the Friends of Peace group,” Xi Jinping stated.
The Chinese leader underscored the significance of uniting all parties that support peace, urging them to come together in pursuit of a political solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
In October, during a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the importance of the efforts made by China and Brazil regarding the Ukraine conflict.
Prior to that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had expressed his willingness to incorporate the proposals from China, Brazil, and other countries into his "peace plan." Earlier, China had called for de-escalation in the situation in Ukraine.
China and Brazil are moving to form a “Friends of Peace” platform to work towards ending war in Ukraine that began in February 2022.
The two countries have issued six-point consensus, which calls on all parties concerned to de-escalate, create conditions for direct talks until the realization of a cease-fire, increase humanitarian assistance, oppose use of weapons of mass destruction, oppose attacks on nuclear power plants and other peaceful nuclear facilities, and protect the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
The platform aims to make an objective and rational voice and play a constructive role in the political settlement of the Ukrainian issue.
