Russian strike kills two civilians in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region
Two civilians were found dead under the rubble of a house destroyed by a Russian missile strike in the frontline town of Stepnohirsk in Ukraine, local authorities confirmed on July 27.
According to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, the bodies of a 74-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man were recovered on July 27 from the ruins of a private residence that was struck the previous day, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The house was hit on July 26 during a Russian attack using multiple launch rocket systems, sparking a fire and causing the building to collapse. Emergency workers recovered the bodies after a search through the debris.
The attack on Stepnohirsk came amid a broader overnight assault on Ukrainian territory.
On June 29, around 6 a.m. Kyiv time, Russian forces launched a coordinated strike on the town using guided aerial bombs, rocket artillery, drones, and barrel artillery. One of the munitions struck a high-rise residential building, further damaging civilian infrastructure.
Rescue teams and medical personnel were deployed to the scene to assist victims and manage the aftermath of the shelling.
