Vučić accuses opposition of lacking political program
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has accused prominent public figures and opposition members, including filmmaker Emir Kusturica, of seeking solely to remove him from power without offering a coherent political alternative.
Vučić claimed that individuals such as Kusturica, journalist and University of Novi Sad professor Dinko Gruhonjić, historian Milo Lompar, and opposition politician Nenad Čanak had united around a single goal — his ousting — rather than around any shared ideology or vision for the country. He described their cooperation as “nonsensical” and argued that they lacked both a common political platform and a clear understanding of the needs of Serbian citizens, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
According to Vučić, the only thing uniting these figures was their opposition to him personally. He emphasized that their political agenda consisted solely of efforts to depose him, with no alternative policies being offered.
Tensions escalated further after Kusturica publicly criticised the government’s arrests of participants in recent political protests.
Soon after, Serbian tax authorities closed his “Visconti” restaurant — a venue known for hosting his cultural festivals — citing alleged regulatory violations uncovered during an inspection.
Kusturica responded with a sarcastic social media post in which he thanked Vučić for the closure.
