Turkish, French leaders discuss Gaza in phone call
French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the ongoing crisis in Gaza and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“I just spoke with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about the situation in Gaza and the prospects for the Two-State Solution Conference. Everything must be done to ensure peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians,” Macron stated in a post on X following the call, Caliber.Az reports.
The discussion comes as France signals its intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine, joining a growing list of European nations—including Spain, Ireland, and Norway—that have taken similar steps in recent months.
France’s move has drawn sharp criticism from Israeli officials. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant condemned the initiative, calling it “a disgrace” and accusing Paris of "surrendering to terror."
