Israeli Border Police officers operating in the village of Qalandiya in Judea and Samaria shot dead a gunman who opened fire on security forces during an operational mission in the area, police said.
According to authorities, the incident occurred as Israeli forces entered the village as part of preparations for a preplanned operation. During the deployment, officers identified a suspect exiting a vehicle while carrying a long gun, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.
Police said the assailant immediately began firing directly at the officers upon leaving the vehicle.
“The officers present responded quickly with return fire,” police said, adding that the gunman was killed at the scene, preventing casualties among Israeli security personnel.
Security forces remained in the area following the shooting to conduct searches and gather evidence connected to the attempted attack.
No injuries among Israeli forces were reported.
The incident took place near Qalandiya, a sensitive area between Jerusalem and Ramallah that has seen repeated security operations and clashes in recent years.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the attacker or provided further details regarding possible affiliations or motives.
The shooting comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing security operations across Judea and Samaria, where Israeli forces have increased activity in response to recent attacks and militant activity.
