Lithuania has pledged more than €10 million to support initiatives aimed at returning Ukrainian children taken to Russia, as well as providing rehabilitation services and strengthening child protection systems, according to a statement from the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry.
The announcement followed a meeting in Brussels on May 11 between Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, held on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, Caliber.Az reports.
During the meeting, the two sides signed a joint declaration under which Lithuania committed funding for projects focused on the return of Ukrainian children, as well as their psychological and medical rehabilitation and safe reintegration into society.
According to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, the funds will support specific programmes designed to help children return home and recover from trauma caused by the war.
Budrys described the issue as a “test of values” and said Lithuania would continue supporting Ukraine through both political backing and long-term practical assistance.
