Turkish FM optimistic about possible Putin-Zelenskyy meeting
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has voiced optimism about the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Istanbul.
Speaking after the Balkan Peace Platform meeting, Fidan said that one of the main objectives of the current negotiations in Istanbul is to bring the two leaders face-to-face, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He emphasised that discussions are focused on prisoner exchanges and potential ceasefire terms, with some progress already achieved in the release of detainees.
According to Fidan, both Putin and Zelenskyy have expressed a willingness to meet in Istanbul.
He added that US President Donald Trump has also shown interest in efforts toward a ceasefire, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan strongly supports the idea of hosting a summit between the two leaders in Istanbul.
