Chisinau has yet to launch CIS withdrawal, says Russian envoy
Chisinau has not formally begun the process of withdrawing from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), despite public statements by Moldovan officials, Russia’s ambassador to Moldova, Oleg Ozerov, stated.
“The country’s Foreign Minister, Mihai Popșoi, did indeed announce the launch of the denunciation process for three foundational treaties. However, so far, we have not seen any reports indicating that the corresponding legal procedures have been initiated,” Ozerov said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The three treaties at the centre of the discussion are the agreement establishing the CIS, the CIS Charter, and the Alma-Ata Declaration. While Chisinau has expressed intentions to distance itself from the organization, the ambassador emphasized that no formal steps have yet been taken to implement such a withdrawal.
