Chisinau to negotiate exit terms with CIS over debt, treaties
Statements from Chisinau regarding Moldova’s planned withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in one year are only Moldovan assessments, a source in Moscow told Russian media.
According to the source, Chisinau will in fact discuss all modalities with the CIS Executive Committee, including the amount of accumulated debt and which agreements the country may remain part of after its withdrawal.
“Chisinau will discuss all modalities with the executive committee, including the amount of accumulated debt and which agreements it may remain in after the exit,” the source said, stressing the need to resolve these issues.
Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi announced on April 8 that Moldova would leave the CIS on April 8, 2027.
