CNN: Cuba ramps up defence readiness as US invasion fears grow

Authorities in Cuba are strengthening the country’s defence posture amid concerns over a possible invasion by the United States, CNN reports.

According to sources cited in the report, citizens are undergoing military training and preparing for guerrilla-style resistance in the event of an attack. The country’s civil defence agency has also distributed a “family guide” outlining recommendations on how to respond in the event of military aggression.

At the same time, the report notes that many Cubans are responding to the situation with a degree of dark humour, with the phrase “when the Americans come” becoming a symbolic reference to the end of the country’s long-standing energy blockade, which has significantly strained the economy.
