CNN logo appears on 1.6 tons of cocaine seized in Ecuador VIDEO / PHOTO

Ecuadorian police have seized more than 1.5 tonnes of cocaine in an operation in the San Gregorio area of the Muisne municipality, the country’s National Police said on X.

“Ecuadorian police carried out an operation <...>, resulting in the seizure of 1,611 packages of cocaine hydrochloride with a total weight of approximately 1.6 tonnes,” the police said, according to Caliber.Az.

The operation followed a months-long investigation. According to police, the San Gregorio area had been used as a storage and transit point for narcotics.

In addition to the cocaine shipment, authorities seized a speedboat, two outboard motors and 200 gallons of fuel believed to have been intended for transporting the drugs.

Police estimated the value of the seized cocaine at approximately $1.8 million on the Ecuadorian market and $48 million in the United States.

Ecuadorian Interior Minister John Reimberg later posted footage of the seizure on X. The packages containing the cocaine were marked with the logo of the U.S. television network CNN.

According to Reimberg, the cocaine belonged to an organisation that obtained the drugs in Colombia, stored them along the northern coast of Esmeraldas province and then transported them to countries in Central and North America.

The interior minister also reported the seizure of 39 barrels of fuel, two boat motors and a speedboat.
