CNN: Trump administration set for direct talks with Iran in coming days
The White House is preparing for possible direct talks between US and Iranian officials in the coming days, CNN reports. According to sources cited by the broadcaster, US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and US Vice President JD Vance are expected to take part in the meeting.
Vance is currently on a visit to Hungary, and his trip could include a stop in Pakistan, the report said.
“There are discussions about in person talks, but nothing is final until announced by the President or the White House,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
On April 8, US President Donald Trump announced an agreement on a two-week ceasefire in the conflict with Iran. He said the sides had made progress toward a peaceful resolution and that a final deal would be formalised within that period. According to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian media, the talks are set to take place on April 10 in Islamabad.
