CNN: Trump erupts over unapproved Saudi nuclear deal announcement

US President Donald Trump was angered after Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia without first informing the White House, according to a CNN report.

The report said Wright's announcement caught Trump and senior White House officials by surprise, prompting frustration over the lack of coordination on a major foreign policy initiative.

According to CNN, Trump became increasingly dissatisfied after conservative media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal and Fox News, criticised the proposed agreement.

In the aftermath, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the deal would be contingent on Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords, the US-backed normalisation framework between Israel and several Arab states.

CNN reported that the president's post appeared only minutes after a Fox News panel questioned the merits of the agreement, although it did not suggest a direct causal link.

Some observers speculated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had urged Trump to attach the Abraham Accords condition to the deal. However, a White House spokeswoman denied the claim, saying Trump and Netanyahu had not spoken during the period in question.

The proposed civilian nuclear agreement is seen as part of broader US efforts to deepen strategic ties with Saudi Arabia. The reported dispute has also highlighted internal tensions over the handling and communication of sensitive foreign policy decisions within the administration.
