CNN: US to send Witkoff, Kushner to Pakistan for Iran talks
The United States is planning to dispatch special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan in the coming days to take part in talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to two US administration officials cited by CNN.
The officials said Vice President JD Vance is not currently expected to travel, noting that Iranian Speaker of Parliament Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf will also not attend. US officials reportedly view Ghalibaf as the head of the Iranian delegation and Vance’s main counterpart in the discussions.
However, the vice president would remain on standby to travel to Islamabad if negotiations make sufficient progress, the officials added. Members of his staff are expected to be present in Pakistan and participate in the talks.
Kushner and Witkoff have been engaged in months of discussions with Iranian officials aimed at exploring a potential agreement related to Tehran’s nuclear material.
