Co-leader: Azerbaijan proposes 14 global initiatives at COP29
Co-Leader of the Action Agenda Initiatives Team under the COP29 Presidency Elmar Mammadov has said that Azerbaijan is focusing on five key principles during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Mammadov made these remarks during the Caspian Energy Forum in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
"Azerbaijan has put forward 14 global initiatives as part of COP29, all centred around five key principles. The first principle is to establish balance in the climate agenda, including financing. The second focuses on balancing ambition with pragmatism. The third principle emphasises ensuring harmony among the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The fourth principle highlights that our initiatives address not only global but also regional issues. The fifth is about fostering harmony between people and nature," he stated.
According to COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, Azerbaijani Silk Way West Airlines will partner with COP29 for global cargo transportation services. Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year. Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan. Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues.
In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit. The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
