Colombia mine collapse kills at least 13, seven rescued
20 August 2026 17:37
At least 13 people have been killed following a rockfall at an illegal gold mine in Colombia’s Narino Department, local radio station Caracol reports.
The incident occurred in the municipality of Policarpa, where a section of the mine reportedly collapsed, trapping workers beneath the rubble.
Authorities said mining activity at the site may have triggered a slope collapse, causing the rockfall and burying miners who were working underground.
Search-and-rescue teams worked for several hours to locate and recover those trapped in the collapse.
Seven miners were rescued and transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Their current condition was not immediately disclosed.
