Colombia mobilises military, rejects “aggression” against Venezuela
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered the deployment of military forces to the country’s border with Venezuela following reports of US attacks.
Petro said the decision was taken after US President Donald Trump announced that a US operation had resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
According to Caliber.Az, Petro made the announcement in a post on his Twitter account.
“We have just finished a meeting of the National Security Council, which began at 3 a.m. Law enforcement forces have been deployed to the border, and in the event of a mass influx of refugees, all available resources will be mobilised to provide assistance. <...> The Colombian government rejects aggression against the sovereignty of Venezuela and Latin America. Internal conflicts between nations are resolved peacefully by the nations themselves. This is the principle of self-determination that underpins the UN system. I call on the Venezuelan people to find a path to civil dialogue and unity. Without sovereignty, there is no nation,” Petro said.
