COP16: Azerbaijani, Saudi ministers explore climate finance, land restoration issues

03 December 2024 17:13

Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, President of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev, has discussed climate finance issues with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Envoy of Saudi Arabia Adel Al-Jubeir.

“Productive meeting between COP29 President and Mr. Adel Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Envoy of Saudi Arabia. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration on climate finance, land restoration and global climate resilience,” Caliber.Az reports, citing a post on COP29’s X account.

The meeting took place on the margins of the 16th session of the Conference of Parties (COP16) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Notably, COP16, which brings together leaders from governments, the private sector, civil society and stakeholders from around the world to accelerate progress on sustainable land management, is taking place in Riyadh, from December 2 to 13, 2024. The conference aims to address the urgent global crises of land degradation, drought and desertification.

The COP16 conference is poised to be a watershed moment, marking a new global commitment to accelerate investment and action to restore land and build drought resilience for the benefit of people and the planet.
