COP29 chief: Climate transparency key to achieving Paris Agreement goals

15 November 2025 11:58

Climate transparency is essential for meeting the commitments set under the Paris Agreement, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev highlighted during the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Transparency.

The event was organised by the COP29 Presidency in partnership with the COP30 Presidency in Belém, Brazil.

Babayev underscored the importance of the collaborative environment on climate transparency established in Baku, noting that this constructive tradition will continue to support the global climate agenda.

The dialogue featured remarks from key figures, including COP29 Chief Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev, COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen, senior EU representatives, and environment ministers and deputy ministers from China, the UK, Norway, the UAE, Angola, Tuvalu, and other nations. Leaders of several international organisations and other high-ranking officials also participated.

During the discussions, Azerbaijan’s contributions to climate transparency under its COP29 presidency received high praise. The leadership role demonstrated by the country, along with the Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform (BTP), was recognised for significantly enhancing transparency in global climate governance.

COP30, held from November 10 to 21, 2025, convenes world leaders, climate experts, and policymakers to accelerate global climate action, promote sustainable solutions, and address urgent issues such as forest conservation, biodiversity, and climate adaptation, with a particular focus on vulnerable regions and communities.

The choice of the Amazon as the host location emphasises the conference’s commitment to forest protection and environmental stewardship.
