COP29 lead negotiator announces July workshop on climate change combat strategies
Yalchyn Rafiyev, the chief negotiator for COP29, emphasized the ongoing impact of climate change on communities worldwide during the 29th high-level meeting on "The Path to COP29: A Resilient and Sustainable Future" in Baku.
According to Report, Rafiyev pointed out that the global community is falling short of its commitments under the Paris Agreement to limit temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
"If we look at the statistics, 2023 was recorded as the hottest year ever by the World Meteorological Organization," he noted.
In an effort to foster more informal discussions on climate action, Rafiyev announced that the COP29 team plans to host a retreat in Azerbaijan in the latter half of July. The retreat aims to bring parties together in a relaxed setting to address climate change issues comprehensively.
