COP29 participants to enjoy free travel on electric trains, metro, and buses in Baku

07 November 2024 13:06

All individuals accredited for COP29 will be able to travel by electric trains for free on November 9-24.

A special Fast Track lane has been created for COP29 participants at both the Baku Railway Station and the "Koroglu" station, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) told Caliber.Az.

The participants should present their accreditation card to use the free transport. Moreover, COP29 participants have been able to use the Baku Metro free of charge since November 6 while from November 9, they will also have free access to the city’s bus routes.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will take place in Azerbaijan this November.

This decision was made during the COP28 plenary in Dubai on December 11, 2023. For two weeks, Baku will host approximately 70,000 to 80,000 international attendees, becoming a major global hub for climate discussions.

The UNFCCC, established at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to prevent dangerous human-induced interference with the climate system. COP, or the "Conference of the Parties," is the primary decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Convention. With 198 member states, the COP meets annually, unless otherwise agreed by the parties. The inaugural COP was held in Berlin in March 1995, and the secretariat is based in Bonn.
