Council of Europe chief: "This is not the first time the world has gone so mad"

Democratic institutions are coming under intense pressure, and respect for international law is declining, Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset has stated.

Speaking in an interview with LRT, he described the current global situation as particularly difficult, while noting that similar crises had occurred before, Caliber.Az reports.

According to him, this is not the first time the world has “gone so mad.”

“I agree with you that this is an especially difficult period right now. But it is not the first time that events completely inconsistent with international law have taken place: wars, human rights violations that go unanswered, and much more,” he noted.

Berset called for resilience during this difficult period.
