Croatia evacuates coastal resort amid wildfires across Europe VIDEO

Wildfires are spreading across several European countries, with Croatia among the worst affected as flames approach the Adriatic coast and authorities evacuate residents.

One person has died, and more than 40 people have been injured in the fires, while dozens are reportedly receiving intensive medical care. Authorities have described the situation as one of the most severe wildfire emergencies in Croatia’s recent history, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media. 

Around 2,000 people have been evacuated from the coastal resort town of Omis as the fire rapidly approaches populated areas.

Croatian authorities have deployed all available resources to contain the blaze, including six firefighting aircraft and an Air Force helicopter. Despite the extensive response, efforts to stop the fire from spreading have so far been unsuccessful.

Police have urged motorists to avoid the Omis area where possible, citing the large number of firefighting and emergency vehicles operating in the region.

Wildfires are also affecting southwestern France, Spain, Germany, Greece, the United Kingdom, Montenegro and Albania. High temperatures combined with strong winds are contributing to the rapid spread of the fires and complicating firefighting efforts.
