Cuba has declared a national day of mourning following the death of revolutionary figure Ramiro Valdés Menéndez.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced the national mourning for June 23 after Valdés Menéndez, one of the historic companions of Fidel and Raúl Castro, passed away, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
During the mourning period, state flags will be flown at half-mast across the country.

Valdés Menéndez died on June 21 at the age of 94. He participated in the Cuban Revolution, including the 1953 assault on the Moncada Barracks, and later held senior government and party positions over several decades, including serving as deputy prime minister.
