Cuba says US has intensified blockade in recent months

Cuba's ambassador to Russia, Enrique Orta Gonzales, has accused the United States of tightening its economic and financial restrictions on the island in recent months.

Speaking about what he described as growing threats facing Cuba, Gonzales said the long-standing US blockade had become more severe, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He said the restrictions, which Havana says have been in place for almost seven decades, had caused increasing economic and humanitarian pressure on the Cuban population.

The ambassador also referred to what he called a “brutal energy blockade”, saying it had further increased the humanitarian impact on Cuba.

Gonzales said Cuba would respond to the pressure with the “dignity and resilience” of its people.

He also invoked the legacy of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, saying his ideas on freedom, justice, dignity and anti-imperialism remained central to Cuba's approach.
