Cyprus police detain Azerbaijani, Estonian on terrorism, spy allegations

Cyprus police have detained a 28-year-old Azerbaijani man and a 27-year-old Estonian woman on suspicion of terrorism and espionage.

Authorities say the man may have been recruited by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Caliber.Az reports, citing Estonian media.

The suspects were photographing sites in Paphos, Limassol, and Larnaca. A court has remanded them in custody for eight days, and their belongings have been seized for examination. The arrests occurred in Larnaca shortly before the suspects were due to leave the island.
