Czech FM vows to block EU sanctions on Israeli minister over Gaza activists
11 June 2026 13:33
The Czech Republic will oppose any European Union efforts to impose sanctions on Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, over his handling of activists attempting to deliver aid to Gaza, the country’s top diplomat has stated.
Foreign Minister Petr Macinka said he had warned EU partners “not even try or we will block” any such proposal if it is brought forward before Israel’s election in late October, Caliber.Az reports, citing Bloomberg.
He argued that it would only increase Itamar Ben-Gvir's domestic popularity.
According to him, potential EU sanctions could also be perceived as interference in Israel’s elections.
