Czech Republic imports nearly 830,000 tons of Russian steel in 2025

In 2025, the Czech Republic imported a historically high volume of Russian steel.

According to Kurzy, citing the country’s statistical office, shipments of steel from Russia to the Czech Republic reached nearly 830,000 tons—76% more than in 2024. In monetary terms, the imports were valued at almost 10 billion Czech koruna (around $467 million).

Steel is a key raw material for the Czech automotive industry. The sharp rise in imports from Russia has been attributed to the declining competitiveness of the domestic steel sector and the gradual erosion of its traditional capabilities.
