Danish PM: Trump still seeks to annex Greenland
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that she believes US President Donald Trump continues to pursue the goal of annexing Greenland, the self-governing Danish territory.
“I think the desire from the US president is exactly the same,” Caliber.Az quotes her as saying at the Munich Security Conference.
Frederiksen noted that Trump is “very serious” about establishing control over Greenland. She added that while she is open to discussing enhanced Arctic security, there are limits to such initiatives.
The prime minister also recalled that Greenland’s residents have opposed joining the United States.
Trump initially insisted that Greenland, part of Denmark, become US territory, prompting protests from both Danish and Greenlandic authorities. He later accepted NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte’s proposal to negotiate a compromise solution.
The Munich Security Conference is being held from February 13 to 15.
